Our strategic pillars
We established five strategic pillars that guide our way of working and acting, both within and outside the company.
People & Entrepreneurship
Our people define our success. We look to provide an open and safe work environment, within which people are encouraged to share their insights and know how.
We challenge them to take actions that make the difference.
To this end, we provide our people the opportunity to grow in their personal and work life. From the work floor through to our management, we encourage values-based and empowered business conduct.
Quality
Quality is all about our license to operate. And quality is also about our responsibility towards our clients’ success. We seek to deliver product excellence. Each and every day, in everything we do. To assure quality, we have in place the highest quality standards & certifications.
Operating in a dynamic society and highly competitive market, we make sure we understand trends and are able to predict them. We collaborate closely with our partners in the supply chain to bring true added value products, concepts and packaging innovations.
Responsible, Safe & Sustainable
Responsible business means that what we do is never at the expense of people or the environment. We invest in people, technology and R&D facilities to create a safe working environment and make our business more sustainable. We do so in a way that balances both our short and long term interests.
We look to reduce our environmental footprint. We believe that sustainability goes beyond what happens within our operations and we share our approach and success with our business partners and our supply chain. We work in close collaboration with suppliers and clients to make sweets in a way that impacts the environment less, with ingredients that contribute to a healthier lifestyle.
Profitable and Consistent Growth
We drive excellence in our operations and supply chain in order to boost efficiency and remain competitive. We accelerate organic, sustainable growth by investing in our people, in new technologies and new product concepts. Product innovations are undertaken pro actively and in close collaboration with our partners. In this way, we grow our and our clients’ market share and open up new and mutual strategic opportunities. This includes bringing high added value, reduced sugar and sugar free sweets to our clients.
Creating Value Through Innovation
Our innovations are consumer and market driven. We create and innovate in anticipation of changing trends. We are constantly on the move to create appealing concepts and products for an ever increasing number of convenience and health oriented consumers.
We aim to offer alternatives that contribute to healthier lives. We work hard to remain frontrunners when it comes to sugar free and vegan sweets, with the taste and textures consumers love.
Our History
Company founded in Drachten
Continental Candy Industries was founded in Drachten, Holland, in 1985. With the production of confectionery for the food market in the Benelux countries and Great Britain, a successful company was founded.
Strategic redefinition
After a strategic redefinition in 2008, where we focused more strongly on retail and private labels. This resulted in a significant growth.
New factory
This growth, resulting from a relevant portfolio and our new strategic positioning, prompted us to move to a new factory with a larger capacity in 2012. This move helped pave the way for a successful future.
Takeover by TECG
In early 2013, CCI Drachten was sold to The European Candy Group (TECG), a subsidiary of Bencis Capital Partners. TECG’s objective was to establish the leading European trade brand confectionery producer. This was to be achieved based on a buy-and-build strategy.
Takeover of Perfetti van Melle Plant
In the following years, a series of further acquisitions was effected. The first of these was in September 2013, with the takeover of a former Perfetti van Melle factory in Hoorn (NL).
Takeover of Kraepelien & Holm
In February 2014, we took over liquorice factory Kraepelien & Holm in Oosterwolde (NL). With this takeover, we expanded our product portfolio of fruit gums and jellies to include liquorice.
Acquisition of Mederer Plant and Sulá
In November 2015, we acquired a former factory of the Mederer Group in Boizenburg on the Elbe river (fruit gums and jellies), followed by the acquisition of Sulá GmbH (sugar-free confectionery) in December of the same year.
Future-oriented portfolio
Since the acquisition of in total five factories and around 550 motivated and experienced colleagues, we have had excellent growth results. We look forward to a successful future based on our strong position on the European market, a customer base in over 30 countries and backed by a future-proof portfolio that meets customer and consumer needs.
